Dr. Michael A. Dorn Jr., DC of Baltimore Back and Pain Center will work with you individually to determine the underlying cause of your sciatic nerve pain and which treatment method would be most beneficial for you. Our doctors of chiropractic take a conservative, all natural approach to treating sciatic nerve pain. Chiropractic spinal adjustments have proven to be very effective in reducing and possibly eliminating nerve irritation and pain. Other treatment options that may be used include trigger point therapy or instrumented-assisted soft tissue therapy.
TREATMENTS FOR SCIATIC NERVE PAIN
The sciatic nerves are the largest and longest nerves in the body, and when irritated can cause persistent and possibly severe pain. Nerve compression from misaligned vertebrae is one of the most common causes of sciatic leg pain. A bulging or herniated disc can also irritate the sciatic nerve. These factors may be a result of emotional, physical or chemical stress.
The intensity of the pain caused by the affected sciatic nerve can range from minimal to severe. The frequency also varies from person to person. Some describe the pain as a dull, sharp pain like pins and needles or something similar to an electric shock. If the entire sciatic nerve is affected you may experience burning, cramping and numbness from the thighs all the way down to the toes, as well as lower back pain. For some pain only occurs in a limited area such as the calf, knees or buttocks.
