DIAGNOSING AND TREATING LEG PAIN
While the pain may manifest itself in the leg, the issue often originates in the spine. When one irritates a nerve in the neck or low back, it often sends a signal down to the leg or hand. It continues to cause pain until freed from its irritation. Once we determine exactly what is creating the problem, through an exam and investigation, we can then effectively treat the root cause of the pain.
Chiropractic care works to preserve or restore mobility and the normal functioning of the leg. Generally speaking, patients often suffer from leg pain due to nerve issues/irritation, trauma, or arthritis. Chiropractic fixes misalignments in the spine and benefits the joints, and physical therapy is used to increase flexibility and movement.
DIAGNOSING AND TREATING KNEE PAIN
Knee pain is a common complaint among people of all ages and fitness levels. Some knee pain will respond fine to self-care measures such as ice, or knee braces. However, some knee injuries require physical therapy or surgical repair. Common causes of knee pain include an ACL injury, torn meniscus, ruptured ligament, dislocated kneecap, bursitis. torn cartilage, Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, bruising, tendinitis, arthritis or gout.
In order to establish a treatment plan, we must first diagnose the cause of the pain. A physical exam may be all that is needed to diagnose the cause of your knee pain; however diagnostic tests such as X-rays, a CT scan, or an MRI may be performed. Treatment plans may include specific manipulation techniques to decrease pain, and improve function and movement, rehabilitative exercises, tissue healing using ultrasound and Interferential Therapy (a type of physical therapy) and arch support.
DIAGNOSING AND TREATING FOOT PAIN
There are various causes of foot pain that range from injury or disease to other factors, such as wearing uncomfortable shoes or running on uneven surfaces. When foot pain begins to interfere with your daily activities, it’s time to get checked out. If the foot looks deformed or you experience loss of function, significant swelling, or a change in toenail color, you should seek medical treatment. Causes of foot pain include sprains, strains and fractures, Achilles tendonitis, Osteoarthritis, Turf toe, Gout, Plantar Fasciitis, Athlete’s Foot; bunions, Corns and blisters, ingrown toenails, complication from Diabetes and peripheral neuropathy.
During your exam our chiropractor will typically ask you several questions in order to determine how your foot pain began, how it impacts your daily life, when it bothers you the most and what can be done to alleviate the pain. The doctor will physically examine the appearance of the foot and may move the foot into various positions to evaluate the amount of pain caused by certain movements. Further testing, such as X-rays or MRI or bone scans may be needed to determine the extent of the problem. There are many treatments for foot pain, including massage therapy and chiropractic manipulations. Shoe inserts may be recommended for support.
