Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a condition brought on by increased pressure on the median nerve at the wrist. In effect, it is a pinched nerve at the wrist.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms
Symptoms may include numbness, tingling, and pain in the arm, hand, and fingers. Pressure on the nerve can happen several ways: swelling of the lining of the flexor tendons, called tenosynovitis; joint dislocations, fractures, and arthritis can narrow the tunnel; and keeping the wrist bent for long periods of time.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome causes
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome may be caused by making the same hand and wrist motion over and over. Using hand tools that vibrate may also lead to carpal tunnel. Studies have not proved that CTS is caused by typing on a computer, using a mouse, or repeating movements while working, playing a musical instrument, or playing sports. But these activities may cause tendinitis or bursitis.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the most expensive of all work-related injuries. A carpal tunnel patient loses about $30,000 in medical bills and time absent from work over his or her lifetime. CTS generally occurs in adults, with women 3 times more likely to develop it than men.
